Sachin Tendulkar's Guiding Words: Prithvi Shaw's Path to Redemption
Once celebrated as the future of Indian cricket, Prithvi Shaw experienced early success that brought both fame and challenges. Bursting onto the scene at 15 and leading India to an Under-19 World Cup victory at 18, Shaw's Test debut century fueled expectations of a legendary career.
However, the rapid ascent was accompanied by distractions. Shaw has acknowledged a decline in focus, attributing it to negative influences, questionable choices, and a lapse in discipline that gradually distanced him from the sport. He began missing crucial practice sessions, prioritizing less important aspects of his life. This led to his exclusion from the Mumbai Ranji team and a failure to secure a bid in the IPL 2025 auction.
Amidst this period of adversity, one voice of support remained constant: that of Sachin Tendulkar. The legendary cricketer, having observed Shaw's development alongside his son Arjun, stood by him when many others did not.
"Sachin sir is well aware of my journey. Arjun and I have been friends since childhood. We have grown up and played together. Sachin Sir has been present sometimes. I spoke with him recently, around two months ago when he was practicing at the MIG. I was also there, and we had a conversation," Shaw shared with News24.
Tendulkar's mentorship provided crucial encouragement during a difficult time. "When you lose your way, you need a mentor to reignite your passion. He continues to believe in me, saying, 'Prithvi, I still have faith in you.' He has witnessed my growth. Even now, he advises me to 'get back on track, like before.' Anything is possible in the coming years. His belief means a lot."
Now at 25, Shaw is actively working to revitalize his career. He has moved from Mumbai cricket to Maharashtra, seeking a fresh start. Acknowledging his past errors, he is committed to hard work, aiming to rebuild his once-promising trajectory.
Whether this marks the beginning of a complete comeback remains to be seen. However, it is evident that Shaw is confronting his past mistakes head-on. With the support of figures like Sachin Tendulkar, he has a genuine opportunity for redemption.
