Harvansh Singh Pangalia, the India U-19 wicketkeeper, lives by a simple yet powerful mantra: "Trying to do better." This isn't just a fleeting thought; it's a philosophy inspired by an unlikely source – the Spider-Man movie franchise.

A self-proclaimed Marvel enthusiast, Harvansh draws motivation from a scene in Spider-Man 2 (2004), where Peter Parker, played by Tobey Maguire, responds to a critique with the line: "Trying to do better." This dialogue, later reprised in "Spider-Man: No Way Home," resonates deeply with the young cricketer.
"There's something about that scene, that dialogue... The answer gives me goosebumps," Harvansh shared.
Harvansh recently demonstrated his dedication to improvement during a practice match against Young Lions Invitational XI. Coming in with the score at 251/7, he unleashed an explosive innings, smashing a century off just 52 balls. His knock included nine sixes, propelling India to a formidable total of 442/9. This performance has ignited social media, with fans and friends hailing him as India's next batting sensation.
The humble teenager remains grounded, unsure how he conjured such a remarkable innings. "I was struggling. The first five balls I faced, I was all at sea, failing to connect a single one... But then something happened. Something snapped," Harvansh recounted.
Hailing from Gandhidham, Gujarat, Harvansh's journey is one of dedication and family sacrifice. He was inspired by his father, Damandeep Singh, and uncle, Kunwarajeet Singh, both of whom were wicketkeepers. While his family, including his father, has settled in Canada, Harvansh chose to stay in India with his mother to pursue his cricketing aspirations. His father, a truck driver in Canada, works tirelessly to support his family's dreams.

"Whenever I step out to bat, I see the faces of my mother and father... They have sacrificed so much for me," Harvansh expressed with gratitude. He is determined to reunite his parents in India, driven by an unwavering belief in his abilities.
Harvansh admires Yuvraj Singh's resilience and Kobe Bryant's unparalleled work ethic. He believes that mentality and self-belief are crucial for athletes to excel. He aspires to play Test cricket for India, inspired by Virat Kohli's emphasis on the format's character-building qualities. "Test ka naam test hai because it tests your character... That's the ultimate cricket," he stated.
While acknowledging the success of his teammates who have secured IPL contracts, Harvansh remains focused on his individual journey. "They do inspire all of us, but everyone has a different path. Mera bhi time aayega (My time will come as well)," he affirmed.
India U19 will face England U19 in the first Youth ODI at Hove on Friday.
