Sunil Gavaskar, the legendary Indian cricketer, has publicly condemned the proliferation of fake quotes attributed to him on various sports websites and social media platforms. He is urging fans to exercise caution and verify information before accepting it as factual.
In a video message posted on his official Instagram account, Gavaskar directly addressed the issue, highlighting the misattribution of comments he never actually made.
“Over the last few months, it has come to my notice that a lot of sports websites and individual accounts have been attributing comments and quotes to me that I've never made,” Gavaskar stated in the video. He emphasized the importance of due diligence: “I request everybody to verify, fact-check, and not to believe everything that they read, particularly coming from some of these individual accounts and sports websites. God bless you all.”
Gavaskar, currently in England as a commentator for the ongoing Test series between India and England, expressed his concern over the widespread circulation of these fabricated remarks. While he refrained from naming specific platforms, his disapproval of the trend was evident.
These statements from the 75-year-old cricket icon come after several alleged quotes were falsely attributed to him during India’s first Test loss.
