The Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) is the latest state association to announce the launch of its own T20 league, with plans to begin in the 2025-26 season. This move will provide a platform for local talent and potentially serve as a scouting ground for IPL franchises.
According to Anil Patel, the secretary of the Gujarat Cricket Association, the decision has been made, but the details are still being worked out. The GCA is currently seeking a suitable window in the cricketing calendar to hold the tournament and are yet to finalize the number of teams that will participate.
These domestic T20 leagues have grown in popularity and significance, as they offer a crucial pathway for identifying and nurturing emerging cricket talent. Leagues in Delhi, Mumbai, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Andhra, and Saurashtra have all successfully provided a stage for local players to shine and potentially earn a spot in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Many of these leagues are strategically scheduled in June and July, following the conclusion of the IPL season in May.
