Rohit Sharma Vacations in Milan with Wife as India Struggles in Test Series

Amidst India's struggle against England in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, former captain Rohit Sharma's Milan vacation sparked debate. Shubman Gill, succeeding Sharma, faced criticism after a defeat at Headingley. Despite centuries from multiple Indian batsmen, batting collapses and dropped catches led to England's victory. Nasser Hussain pointed out Gill's reactive captaincy, contrasting it with Sharma and Kohli's proactive leadership.

Rohit Sharma, the former India Test captain, was recently spotted enjoying a vacation in Milan with his wife, Ritika Sajdeh, while the Indian team is currently engaged in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy five-Test series against England.

Sharma, who recently retired from red-ball cricket at the age of 38, shared glimpses of his Italian getaway on social media, including a picture of the iconic Duomo di Milano cathedral. Having stepped down from Test duties, Sharma is now focusing on One-Day Internationals, with his next assignment scheduled for August when India tours Bangladesh for a three-match ODI series starting on August 17.

Meanwhile, the Indian team suffered a setback in the first Test against England at Headingley, losing by five wickets. The defeat put additional pressure on Shubman Gill, who was captaining the side for the first time in Tests.

Former England captain Nasser Hussain analyzed Gill's captaincy debut on Sky Sports, noting that he seemed to be "finding his way" and lacked the commanding presence of Sharma and Kohli. Hussain observed that Gill appeared reactive rather than proactive and suggested there were "two or three captains" on the field, implying a lack of clear leadership.

England's victory was largely due to Ben Duckett’s explosive 149, supported by Joe Root’s unbeaten 53 and Jamie Smith’s steady 44 not out on his debut.

Despite India recording five individual centuries across both innings – Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Rishabh Pant all reached triple figures – the team failed to capitalize on those strong performances and secure a win.

Hussain also pointed out that while Gill faced leadership challenges, he wasn’t solely responsible for the loss. "India lost the match because of two things Gill couldn't control — dropped catches and batting collapses," he stated, highlighting India's fielding errors and middle-order struggles.

India had England in potentially vulnerable positions at 276/5 in the first innings and 333/4 in the second, but they failed to press their advantage. A series of batting collapses saw India lose 7 wickets for 41 runs in their first innings and 6 for 31 in the second, which ultimately shifted the momentum in England’s favor.
