Actor-turned-politician Vijay has been officially declared as the Chief Ministerial candidate for Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in the upcoming 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
The announcement followed a special resolution passed during the party's State Executive Committee meeting. The meeting was held at the TVK headquarters located in Chennai.
According to NDTV, the meeting, which was presided over by Vijay himself, also initiated preparations for a significant state conference scheduled for the coming month.
Meanwhile, Vijay is preparing for the release of his highly anticipated film, 'Jana Nayagan,' directed by H. Vinoth. The teaser for 'Jana Nayagan' was recently unveiled and has garnered positive feedback from viewers.
Priyamani, an actress with a key role in the film, has expressed her admiration for Vijay. In an interview reported by Wionews, she mentioned her excitement about sharing screen space with him, adding, "I hope this isn’t his last film.”
During a recent appearance at the Kerala Carnival in Ireland, Mamitha Baiju, another prominent cast member of 'Jana Nayagan,' recounted a conversation with Vijay. She stated, "I just asked him whether 'Jana Nayagan' would truly be his last outing. Vijay Sir responded by saying that it all depends on how elections go. He also said that we’ll see what happens.”
'Jana Nayagan’ boasts a star-studded ensemble including Bobby Deol, Pooja Hegde, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, and Mamitha Baiju.
In contrast, Vijay's previous venture, the action film 'GOAT,' did not resonate with audiences.
