Elon Musk's social media platform, X, formerly known as Twitter, has taken decisive action against accounts violating its policies in India. Over 500,000 accounts have been banned between January 26 and February 25, according to a Reuters report.
The crackdown targeted accounts engaged in promoting child sexual exploitation and non-consensual nudity, resulting in the ban of 506,173 accounts. Additionally, 1,982 accounts were suspended for promoting terrorism.
During this period, X received approximately 14,421 complaints from Indian users through its grievance redressal mechanisms. Furthermore, around 41 requests were made regarding account suspensions. The company stated that after reviewing the specifics, they overturned only one account suspension. The remaining reported accounts remain suspended. They also received 71 requests related to general questions about accounts.
This action is a continuation of X's efforts to maintain a safe platform. In the preceding month, from December 26 to January 25, the platform banned approximately 231,215 accounts in India and 1,945 accounts were suspended for promoting terrorism.
To avoid account suspension, users should strictly adhere to X's policies. Specifically, refrain from posting content related to child sexual exploitation and non-consensual nudity.
