At the grand preview of his son Aryan Khan’s directorial debut ‘The Ba***ds of Bollywood’ on Wednesday, Shah Rukh Khan made a playful reference to his 2018 film ‘Zero’. While addressing the audience, he humorously reflected on the failure of the film at the box office.
Here’s a closer look.
SRK’s witty advice to filmmakers
In his candid remark, Shah Rukh Khan was telling someone not to make a film like his movie, ‘Zero,’ which was a box office failure. During the event, Khan said, “Gadha bana lena, mamu bana lena lekin bhagwaan ke liye mere Tarah Zero mat banana (It’s fine if they want to make a fool out of me or an idiot but for God's sake, they shouldn't make a film that flops as badly as Zero did).”
Shah Rukh Khan’s earlier take on failure of ‘Zero’ on social media
Shah Rukh has joked about his 2018 film before. In 2023, during an ‘Ask SRK’ session on X (formerly Twitter), a fan commented, “Sir 1000 crores have 10 zeroes…i realised after box-office collection of #Jawan @iamsrk #AskSRK have u?" In response, SRK made a subtle joke about ‘Zero’ saying, “Yaar yeh Zero Zero mat yaad dilao abhi….ha ha."
About ‘Zero’
‘Zero’, released in 2018, also featured Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif in prominent roles. The film, directed by Aanand L Rai, did not perform well commercially and is regarded as one of Shah Rukh Khan’s box office disappointments, earning less than Rs.
100 crores in India.
Aryan Khan’s debut as a director
Aryan Khan, unlike his father and sister Suhana Khan who chose acting, decided to become a director. He has been working on this project for over a year as the creator and director. He is working with co-creators and writers Bilal Siddiqi and Manav Chauhan. The show, produced by Red Chillies Entertainment, is about the lives of people trying to make it in the busy world of the Hindi film industry. The cast includes Bobby Deol, Lakshya, Sahher Bambba, Manoj Pahwa, Mona Singh, Manish Chaudhari, Raghav Juyal, Anya Singh, Vijayant Kohli and Gautami Kapoor.
