Adani Trivandrum RoyalsSanju Samson marked his return to action in style, combining with his brother Saly Samson to take the first wicket for his team in the Kerala Cricket League season on Thursday, August 21.
Playing as vice-captain for Kochi Blue Tigers, Sanju made an immediate impact in the opening game. On the very first ball of the match against Adani Trivandrum Royals, opener Subin S pushed the ball to the off side and went for a risky single. Sanju swooped in with a direct throw to the bowler’s end, which was cleanly collected by his elder brother and team captain Saly Samson, resulting in a run-out.

The rare sibling effort drew attention on social media, with fans celebrating the wicket as a memorable start to the new season. The moment also highlighted the leadership duo of the Samson brothers, who are aiming to guide Kochi Blue Tigers to a strong campaign in the league’s second edition. Adani Trivandrum Royals were bowled out for just 97 runs.
The outing comes at a time when Sanju’s place in India’s T20 setup is under discussion. With Shubman Gill recently named vice-captain for the upcoming Asia Cup in the UAE, there has been speculation over India’s playing XI.
Chief selector Ajit Agarkar had said, “The captain-coach will take the call on the best balance for the team. Once we get to Dubai, we will have a bit more clarity. With more options available now, Shubman has been in great form for the last few months. So has Sanju, so two good options, along with Abhishek.”
